My background and experience
OLATOKUNBO BANKOLE

I am the Founder of Autism PIN (Parents In Need) a non-profit organisation in the UK. The organisation aims to create awareness of different disabilities within the African Communities by providing practical, emotional and educational support for African Families living in the UK.
I was born in Manchester , however was raised and studied my primary/ secondary and OND in Nigeria. Married and a mother to two beautiful grown up children.
I am a Trainer, a Writer, and a Strong VOICE for African parents and children with disabilities. I strongly believe that there is a need for raising awareness and educating families within the Black Minority Ethnic (BME) communities as I have come across many families within the BME Communities who are facing many issues regarding their special needs children. I am a consultant with over 15 years working experience with families who have children with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and those being excluded from school, and also worked within a SENDIASS (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Information Advice and Support) team for over 10 years supporting parents who have children with SEN providing confidential and impartial service for parents and carers, children and young people (up to 25 years).
I am an expertise in the field of Autism and regularly facilitate training on a variety of subjects on Special Educational Needs as well as Facilitated workshops for the National Autistic Society’s Black Minority Ethnic project.
My passion made me to found and start a weekly popular Radio Programme “Special African Child” which I started in April 2016 where different topics about disabilities within the African Communities are discussed .
Educational Back ground
I have an O.N.D in Mass Communication from Polytechnic Ibadan, studied Computing and Information Systems from Guildhall University now Metropolitan University, Post Graduate in Autism and Masters in Education based her dissertation on how to explore the difficulties young people with Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD) face when they are accessing leisure and recreation in London Boroughs of Enfield and Waltham Forest.
I am a Sleep Therapist, Researcher, Writer, a trained Counsellor, Picture Exchange Systems Trained; I am also a certified Prince Foundation holder. I am Solihull Approach trained and also uses the Common Assessment Framework to identify the need of a family.
I believe in using SPELL (Structure, Positive approaches, Empathy, Low Arousal and Link Framework), a framework in identifying underlying issues, reducing the disabling effects of the Autism and providing a cornerstone for communication. I have accrued a consistent track record of working successfully with individuals, families or groups, all within a variety of settings. Possessing knowledge and understanding of relevant legislation, procedures and techniques required. I have extensive knowledge of family work principles, techniques and practices and their application to complex cases, group work, and community issues.
I enjoy giving back to the Community by doing voluntary work during my spare time. I also enjoy going to church, dancing and love old school music especially Luther Vandross and Nigeria Afro Beats and dressing up!!
